Beginning this month, OSATT Core will be known simply as OSATT, the Office of Strategic Alliances, Transactions & Translation. OSATT will continue to provide high-impact support for engagement with industry and other non-federal sponsors to develop and launch strategic research collaborations and other sponsored programs at MIT.
The updated name better reflects how the office is recognized across campus and how its work has evolved. This change aligns with the current structure, in which OSATT’s Catalyst and Alliance Management teams have unified as the Strategic Alliances team, working in partnership with the Strategic Transactions team, to advance OSATT’s mission to translate ideas into research and research into impact. Through its Hermes Team, OSATT also handles research-related agreements such as data use agreements (DUAs), nondisclosure agreements (NDAs), and material transfer agreements (MTAs).
Previously, “OSATT” served as an umbrella term for the Technology Licensing Office (TLO), Corporate Relations (Industrial Liaison Program and the Startup Exchange), and OSATT Core. While the three offices will continue to collaborate closely, TLO and Corporate Relations will retain their well-established, unique identities as they continue to serve the MIT community.

Research administration in the Office of the Vice President for Research

Moving forward, collaboration across OSATT, the Technology Licensing Office (TLO), Corporate Relations, Research Administration Services (RAS), and other partners will continue to support corporate engagement, agreement negotiation, intellectual property management, reporting, compliance, and more.
If you’re reading the chart above closely, you may note that Research Development has moved; it is now located within RAS and provides its same services relating to funding opportunities, limited submission opportunities, resources to enhance proposal competitiveness, and support for internal funding programs.
