Additional information required on packages traveling to or through the European Union

The European Union (EU) has strengthened customs requirements and implemented Import Control System 2 (ICS2) effective March 1, 2023. As a result, all goods (except documents), regardless of dollar amount, being shipped to or transiting through the European Union (EU)*, Northern Ireland, Norway, and Switzerland by air will need to have:

  1. A minimum six-digit Harmonized System (HS) code for each item in the shipment
  2. Accurate goods description for each item in the shipment
  3. The receiver’s Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number

To accommodate this change, related fields in eShipGlobal will be required, and a new tool to look up harmonized codes has been added. Contact eship@mit.edu with any questions regarding this change.

If your DLCI does not use eShipGlobal, you can find the six-digit code using the Census Bureau Schedule B Search Engine. To avoid shipping delays, we recommend using MIT preferred vendors.
