NASA Issues New COI Policy Requirements

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has issued new Conflict of Interest Policy Requirements, which will align with the existing COI policies of many other federal sponsors, most notably the US Public Health Service. The new policy will affect NASA awards issued on or after December 1, 2023.

Important takeaways from the policy:

  • Key Persons will be required to complete proposal certifications in KC at proposal stage in addition to the existing requirement for Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators.
  • PIs, Co-Is and Key Persons will be required to complete a COI disclosure and training module before funds can be expended at award stage.

The COI team will be reaching out to affected PIs, Co-Is and Key Persons, and their Administrative Officers with detailed instructions on how to comply. More detailed information will be provided as it becomes available.
